Wilson NY is a very popular destination for boaters, both American sailors from the east and Canadians from the Toronto-area and points further northeast. Its easy to reach and easy to identify as well. As a harbor, it is a perfect refuge as its vitually land-locked.The village was established in 1818. The waters around Wilson have always been well-known as excellent fishing grounds.
The approaches to Wilson NY are clear from all directions. Its easy to raise Wilson. As you draw near, to the east 12 mi / 19 km is the 612' stack of the Somerset/Kintigh Generating Station. In clear weather, it is visible approximately 29 nm offshore on good weather. Closer in, approximately 3 nm west, are two silos (charted).
If you are coming from the west, there are charted hazards between 1.25 and 3.75 nm west of the channel entrance.
