Providence Bay is home to one of the finest beaches in northern Ontario. This is a popular stopover despite the lack of facilities and services. A provincial park borders part of the beach. This small village attracts many sailors because of the surrounding natural beauty. The fishing is terrific and 30+ pound salmon are not 'fish stories'!

Approaches to Providence Bay are clear from all directions. Approximately .75 nm from the mouth of the bay is Simcoe Bank, marked with a Fl GREEN light - "JH 1" Leave this buoy on your port and enter the bay in the centre of the entrance. There are shoals extending out from Providence Point on your starboard and Simcoe Point on your port. There is a F WHITE light on the end of Providence Point. The public pier is on the east shoreline and is marked with a Fl RED light.

Providence Bay Marina is the government-owned dock. There are about 30 slips there with several available for transient cruisers. There are no services at this dock. The harbourmaster's office has washrooms.

The bay is pretty exposed to bad weather from the south which could make for an unpleasant if not dangerous experience.

There are no repair facilities at the dock or in the village. There is a service station in the village where gasoline can be purchased.

The is a general store in the village which carries some basic supplies.

The well-known and highly regarded School House Restaurant is located in the village. Its fine dining menu earns it high praise from both locals and visitors to Manitoulin Island.

This is a place to relax! The beach is considered one of the best in northern Ontario and draws visitors from far and wide. There is an interpretive centre at the beach that has a snack bar. The village is a short (.75 mi/1 km) walk along a lovely boardwalk from the beach. Every August, Providence Bay hosts an annual fair that attracts thousands. If you like fishing, the bay is well known for its salmon fishing. Chinook, steelhead and coho abound and 30-40 pounders are not unheard of. There is also this Providence Bay site which may give you some ideas on getting the most of your visit.
