DESCRIPTION Metro Beach (more formally called Metropolitan Beach) is a 770 acre/312 ha state park located at the mouth of Black Creek, on the west shore of Lake St Clair at the north end of L'Anse Creuse Bay. Established in 1950, the park has a long beach, walking and biking trails, woodlands, wetlands and 1,600 ft/488 m of boardwalk along the lake. This is a popular destination and the park marina has 265 slips available for transient sailors. |
APPROACHES Lake St. Clair is a very shallow lake and sailors must pay attention to the depths. Make your approach to the mouth of Black Creek starting from marker buoy "1 PH", a Fl GREEN buoy. There is a charted range to the creek mouth of 297.25°T. Approximately 1.5 nm from "1 PH", a buoyed channel begins which you can follow straight in. Dockage begins along the seawall, approximately .5 nm up the creek. You can continue into the crescent-shaped South Marina. Alternatively, you can continue up the creek where an entrance on your port side will lead you into the North marina and more slips. |
MARINAS, YACHT CLUBS, MOORINGS, ANCHORAGES South Marina (586) 465-4581 There are a total of 265 slips in the park. There is no fuel dock but there is a pumpout station. Water and power are available at the slips but not along the seawall. There are restrooms and showers available. There is access to the beach, an olympic-size swimming pool, recreation and picnic areas. Anchorage Anchoring is permitted in the lagoon on the east side of the larger island off the North Marina. |

THINGS TO DO/SEE/VISIT Most of the park is given over to self-guided walking trails. There is an interpretive Nature Study Center, a 1,000 ft/305 m beach and a 1,600 ft/488 m boardwalk that skirts the shoreline. Situated on a major flyway, the park is an excellent place for birdwatching with hundreds of species logged. There is an annual Bird Festival each year. Concerts are often presented in the park.
