DESCRIPTION


Belmont Harbor is the next harbor as you head south along the Chicago shoreline. Located in a neighbourhood described as a village within the city, the harbour offers great protection for its 730 docks and moorings. The harbor is home to two yacht clubs. Part of the extensive waterfront park system, the harbor is surrounded with parkland.

APPROACHES


The approaches to the harbor are clear. The harbor is located approximately 1.2 nm south of Montrose Harbor and 4 nm north of the main Chicago Harbor entrance. The entrance is marked with a Fl RED light. Approximately .25 nm east of the entrance is a RED marker buoy marking a shoal. This is a very well-sheltered harbour.

There are 730 spaces for boats with at least a dozen available for transient sailors. There is a fuel dock (diesel and gasoline) and a pumpout station. There is water and power available at slips. There are restrooms and showers There is also a small chandlery on site. The neighbouring parkland offers lots picnic opportunities. In the immediate neighbourhood, there are many shops and restaurants.

BYC is located at the north end of Belmont Harbor. Its clubhouse is a houseboat, the John B Mack II, moored near the Belmont Harbor Master office. It may have transient docking space. There are restrooms, showers, a kitchen facility and a bar. They have BBQ grills on the shore-side deck are. There is internet access.

Chicago Yacht Club   (773) 477-7575
This is the Belmont Station of the Chicago Yacht Club. The CYC traces its roots back to 1875. Unusual for most yacht clubs, it has two 'stations', the other being located at Monroe Harbor. CYC is located at the south end of the harbor and welcomes visiting sailors. There are restrooms and showers. The clubhouse is a floating, 2 story structure with restaurant, bar and lounge. There is internet access.

REPAIRS & MAINTENANCE, PROVISIONING, BANKS/ATM's

There are a number of grocery stores in the area west of the harbor. Treasure Island Foods is likely the closest.

Fifth Third Bank is located close to the harbor and has both counter service and ATM's.

MEDICAL SERVICES


St. Joseph Hospital (773) 665-3000 is located immediately south of the harbor.

Jewel-Osco Pharmacy (773) 871-1054 is the closest pharmacy.

PLACES TO EAT


There are countless restaurants and bars in the immediate neighbourhoods west of the harbor. Within a few blocks, try the Chicago Diner for great diner food or Mia Francesca for well-regarded Italian cuisine.

Belmont Harbor is north of the entertainment area of Chicago.
