DESCRIPTION


Built on the site of an Indian village in the mid-1700's Conneaut OH (pronounced connie ot) has been a commercial harbor for over a century. The city has over 7 mi/11 km of lakefront, much of it beaches. For fishermen, Conneaut OH is famous for its walleye (pickerel) and steelhead trout. It sits at the mouth of one of the finest steelhead trout streams in the United States. In fact, it is known in fishing circles as the steelhead capital of the world.

APPROACHES


The approaches to Conneaut OH are clear from all directions. The harbor is formed by 2 large, converging breakwaters. The entrance is marked with a Fr RED visible 10.45 nm offshore and a Fl GREEN, visible 7.93 nm.

Once inside the outer breakwaters, following a course of 160°T will bring you right to the entrance of the recreational boat basin and the Conneaut Boat Club.

MARINAS, YACHT CLUBS, MOORINGS, ANCHORAGES

Conneaut Boat Club is located within the recreational boat basin. The entrance is marked with a F RED on the port side of the basin entrance. The club is on the east side of the basin. It has several slips set aside for transient sailors. There is a fuel dock (gasoline only) and a pumpout station. Water, power and cable TV are available at slips. There are restrooms and showers in the clubhouse as well as a bar/lounge. There are picnic areas and BBQ grills. The downtown district is located about 2 mi/3.2 km south of the harbor.

Conneaut Port Authority   (440)-593-1300   
The Conneaut Port Authority has 2 locations. The first, known as the Lagoon, is on the west side of the recreational boat basin. The second is west of the basin at the Municipal Pier. Together, they have several hundred slips with a number set aside for transient sailors. There is a fuel dock (gasoline only) and a pumpout station. Water and power are available at slips. There are restrooms, showers and laundry facilities available. The Port Authority has picnic areas and BBQ grills.

Anchorage
There is a charted anchorage ground to the west of the Municipal Pier.

Portside Marine Inc can provide engine and mechanical maintenance and repair services.

The nearest grocery stores are located in the center of Conneaut OH, about 2-3 mi/3-5 km south. City Center Market Garden can handle reprovisioning needs.

Port Conneaut Federal Credit Union is located a few minute's walk from the Conneaut Boat Club. It has both counter service and ATMs

MEDICAL SERVICES


University Hospital Medical Center (440) 593-1131 is located about 3.5 mi/6 km from the Conneaut Boat Club.

CVS Pharmacy (440) 593-6241 is the closest pharmacy in Conneaut OH to the boat club.

PLACES TO EAT


Most restaurants are located in the downtown area, about 2 mi/3 km south. However, there are several close to the waterfront. High on the list to check out should be the Breakwall Restaurant which opened in June, 2013. Focus is on ribs, pulled pork and perch with an outdoor patio overlooking the harbor. Biscotti's has a very good reputation for its Italian food. Pizza Cafe is a European-style restaurant, also with an Italian flair. Both of the latter 2 are within a 15 minute walk.

THINGS TO DO/SEE/VISIT


There is lots to see and do in and around Conneaut OH. The area is home to 15 wineries, some with good restaurants that showcase their products. Conneaut has good beaches and lake Erie waters are warm in the summer. If you are a fisherman, Conneaut and Conneaut Creek are home to some of the best walleye and steelhead trout on the lake. There are lots of hiking and walking trails in the immediate area and a scenic train ride that takes you through farmland and woodlots.
