DESCRIPTION

Located on the north shore of Long Point Bay, Turkey Point was orginally settled in the 1790's. The area has been described as Ontario's Riviera for its beautiful beaches and warm waters. After 1800, Turkey Point became the capital of Norfolk County and a very important commercial hub in what was then Upper Canada. The principal reason for this was the presence of a courthouse and the many businesses that such an institution would attract (lawyers, surveyors, registry office, hotels, etc). That all ended when the courthouse burnt down in 1815. The courts moved first to Vitorria and later to London, On.

Turkey Point today is a very small hamlet that is home to a large, well-managed provincial park. It is a popular tourist destination due to its terrific beaches and warm Lake Erie waters.
